2019 Scholarship Winners are...

This past spring, 15 Batavia High School seniors were each honored with scholarships from the Batavia Foundation for Educational Excellence on behalf of Ann Rego, Marilyn Robinson, Matthew J. Nena, Megan Reed, Robert Morley, Rose Johnson, Sam Rotolo, Thomas L. Schmitz, and William Freiburger. Scholarships were awarded based on community service, school-related activities, and academic status.

 

Ann Rego Scholarship - $1,000

Scholarship Winner: Karleigh Tomasik

Awarded to a student pursuing a degree in English, education, or literature.

 

Marilyn Robinson Scholarship - $1,000

Scholarship Winner: Lindsey Sheehan
Awarded to a student pursuing a degree in education.

 

Matthew J. Nena Memorial Scholarship - $1,000 each

Scholarship Winners: Jenna Breiten, Raquel Cox, Joshua Irvine, Joseph Oroni, and Jessica Mangers

The scholarship is designed to honor college bound graduating seniors who have overcome a difficult situation in their life either academically, athletically, or personally.  

 

Megan Reed Scholarship - $1,000

Scholarship Winner: Natalie Bock

Awarded to a student pursuing a degree in communication.

 

Robert Morley Scholarship - $2,400

Scholarship Winner: Emily Acquaviva

Awarded to a student pursuing a degree in science.

 

Rose Johnson Scholarship - $5,400

Scholarship Winner: Brooke Thoman
Awarded to a student pursuing a degree in nursing.

 

Sam Rotolo Scholarship - $1,000

Scholarship Winner: Emily Tratar

Awarded to a student pursuing a degree in education at a four-year college or university.


Thomas L. Schmitz Scholarship - $1,000

Scholarship Winner: William Huber, Haley Moulton, Andrew Stasell

Awarded to a student who appreciates this community and will make an effort to also give back.

 

William Freiburger Scholarship - $1,000

Scholarship Winner: Kipp Knecht

Awarded to a student on the Batavia tennis team who embodied William’s love for others and serving community.

2019 Batavia Foundation for Educational Excellence Scholarship offerings:

These scholarship's are non-renewable and awarded only to a 2019 graduating senior at Batavia High School. Each application will be considered regardless of GPA and/or college/university preference.

  • Thomas L Schmitz Scholarship - $1000   To be awarded to a student who appreciates this community and will make an effort to also give back.
  • Sam R Rotolo Scholarship - $1000  To be awarded to a student pursuing a degree in Education at a four-year college or university.
  • Marilyn Robinson Scholarship  - $1000  To be awarded to a student pursuing a degree in Education.
  • Megan Reed Scholarship - $1000  To be awarded to a student pursuing a degree in Communication.
  • Ann Rego Scholarship - $1000  To be awarded to a student pursuing a degree in English, Education or Literature.
  • Rose Johnson Scholarship - $5400  To be awarded to a student pursuing a degree in Nursing.
  • Robert Morley Scholarship - $2400  To be awarded to a student pursuing a degree in Science.

 

Due Date:  Friday, March 1st, 2019 by 4:00PM.   Please print out your completed application and bring it to the Rosalie Jones Administrative Center at 335 W. Wilson St., Batavia.  You must also include a copy of your official transcript and a letter of recommendation.

2019 Matthew J. Nena Memorial Scholarship

The Matthew J. Nena Scholarship has been established by his parents in loving memory of Matthew, who passed away on October 2, 2016.  Matthew would have graduated with his classmates in May 2017, and this scholarship was first awarded starting with his graduating class.  The scholarship is designed to honor college bound graduating seniors who have overcome a difficult situation in their life either academically, athletically, or personally.  

 

For the students graduating in May 2019, there will be two $1000 scholarships awarded.  The awards shall be paid directly to the school the recipients will be attending and is non-renewable.  The school may be a college, university, community college, trade or vocational school, or a professional school.

2019 William Freiburger Scholarship

The William Freiburger Scholarship has been established by the Batavia Tennis Team and those who loved William.  William passed away unexpectedly due to a cerebral aneurysm on February 20, 2018, during his Senior year at Batavia High School.   William would have graduated with his classmates in May 2018, and this scholarship was first awarded starting with his graduating class.  The scholarship is designed to honor college bound graduating seniors on the Batavia tennis team who embodied William’s love for others and serving in his community. 

 

For the students graduating in May 2019, there will be one $1000 scholarship awarded.  The award shall be paid directly to the school the recipients will be attending and is non-renewable.  The school may be a college, university, community college, trade or vocational school, or a professional school.
