Each of our board members serves a minimum three-year term. Our members bring varied backgrounds and talents to the table with the focused goal of helping the children and teachers in the Batavia School District.

Jen Bartels (2019-2024)
Jen and her husband, RJ, have lived in Batavia for 14 years. They have two sons- Drew (class of 2022) and Alex (class of 2028). Before staying at home to raise her two kids she worked at the Naperville Area YMCA for 15 years serving in many different leadership roles. Her last position as Executive Director for the Oswego Family YMCA and the Safe and Sound Program located in every Naperville elementary school in the district. Jen has been an active volunteer for Hoover-Wood School, Batavia Boosters and for the various sports leagues her sons have participated in. Jen is excited to start her role as a BFEE Board Member to give back to the community that has given her and her family so much.

Marge Brown (2018-2024) Co-Chair
Marge began her teaching career in 1975 at Alice Gustafson School teaching 2nd grade. Throughout the years, she has taught 1st through 4th grade as well as preschool at New Horizons Preschool. Retirement in 2013 brought many changes and many new opportunities. Currently, Marge is an enthusiastic volunteer for Fox Valley Food and Health and many Batavia organizations. Marge and her husband, Dave, a 4th generation Batavian, met in Batavia (at what was the "little" Jewel food store, located where Panera now is) over 30 years ago and have lived here ever since. They raised their children here and enjoy spending time with their grandchildren, creating fun childhood memories. Marge is looking forward to serving on BFEE where she can continue to support and enrich education in our Batavia community. She enjoys giving back to the community that has given her so much.

Mary Bruno (2022-2025)
Mary has been a Tri-City resident with her husband, David, since 2006. They have three daughters who have attended Batavia schools since 2013. Mary owns a Real Estate Business with Keller Williams Inspire in Geneva and her husband is the Assistant Superintendent of HR in Glen Ellyn School District 41. Mary is also a very active volunteer in the community and has a heart for philanthropy. She joined BFEE to be a part of the continued efforts of making a difference in the community for our students and families. 

Mary Anne Callahan (2019-2024)
Mary Anne, her husband Marty, and three children have lived in Batavia since 2008. Her daughter, Caitlin, attends BHS and her twin boys, Alex and Nick, attend RMS. Mary Anne continues to be an active member of the Batavia community starting with volunteering at AGS since her boys started school and serving on the AGS PTO for four years. Currently, Mary Anne enjoys serving on several local organizations’ boards and working as a substitute teacher for the district. She values the opportunity to support students, staff and teachers by being a part of the BFEE board.

Celeste Dalton (2022-2025)
Celeste and her husband, Tim, have lived in Batavia for 35 years. They have two sons, Brad and Adam, who went through BPS and are BHS grads. She also has two wonderful daughters-in-law and six beautiful grandchildren. Celeste taught at BHS for 21 fantastic years retiring in 2018. She is now enjoying volunteering at the Batavia Interfaith Food Pantry, serving as a BHS liaison for Chip In, and serving in her church (Batavia Covenant Church) on the preschool board. She is excited to be a part of the BFEE board in helping to provide support and opportunities for the students and teachers in our BPS community. 

Melissa Dempsey (2021-2024) Treasurer
Melissa and her husband, Austin, and children Colton, Bennett and Cora have resided in Batavia since 2007. Melissa continues to be very active in the community with various projects including serving as AGS PTO President and BIC Board Co-Chair. After 15 years in the corporate world, Melissa followed her passion of supporting non-profit agencies and is currently working for Mutual Ground in Aurora as their Grant Manager. She is excited to be part of the BFEE Board and serving within another facet of Batavia’s wonderful community.

Mariah Harden (2022-2025)
Mariah was born and raised in Batavia and graduated with the class of 2014. She attended Northern Illinois University and now works as a Product Manager for Elite Sportswear. In addition, she is a coach for the BHS Cheer Team. She is excited to give back to the district and community in a new way. 

Ginny Gaspar (2022-2025) Co-Chair
Ginny and her husband have lived in Batavia since 1998. Their grown daughter is a proud graduate of BHS. Ginny retired from teaching in 2018 and has enjoyed volunteering in the schools, on school district committees, and at the Batavia Interfaith Food Pantry. She looks forward to working with BFEE to help enrich the students and staff of BPS.

Julie Johnson (2021-2024)
Julie grew up in Batavia and graduated from BHS in 1983. After college she began teaching Spanish at BHS and in 2021 retired after 33 years of service. Through BFEE Julie is looking forward to supporting the students and teachers of this great community. 

Sue Locke (2016-2024)
Sue, her husband and two sons have lived in Batavia since 2008. She has been active in the PTO, volunteering in the community and currently serves on the Board of Education for the Batavia Public School District 101. She is a small business owner and is proud of the work BFEE has done to promote the Incubator program and all the other great works the Foundation supports.  

Freddy Martinez (2021-2024)
Freddy Martinez was born and raised in Batavia, and graduated with the class of 1994 (a year ahead of his peers). His wife is a hairstylist in Batavia, at the salon they own called Shear Ambition. He helped his family run El Taco Grande, in Batavia, for 25 years and now he is the proud owner of Fernando's Street Kitchen! He and his wife have a daughter, 2 dogs and 2 cats. Freddy loves participating in community fundraiser events such as the Flag Day Memorial, Bulldogs Unleashed and other school events. 

Todd Swanson (2018-2024)
Todd is entering his 26th year of teaching in Batavia. All of these years teaching 4th and 5th grades at JB Nelson and Hoover-Wood. Todd is moving to Louise White School to be an interventionist and provide classroom support in instruction and assessment. He is also beginning his tenure as President of the Batavia Education Association, which affords him the opportunity to serve on the BFEE board of director. Todd and his wife, Lisa, live in North Aurora and have three children. One son is a recent graduate of Northern Illinois University. Their other son is attending NIU and their daughter is a senior at West Aurora High School. Todd is thrilled to work with an organization whose focus is doing what is best for kids and recognizing excellence in education.

Administrator  - Ashley Murtaugh 
Ashley moved to Batavia in 2013 and both of her sons currently attend HC Storm, where she is the PTO President. Ashley also volunteers her time with the CHIP IN programs, and she enjoys being able to serve the entire BPS community through BFEE.
