Board of Directors

Each of our board members serves a minimum three-year term. Our members bring varied backgrounds and talents to the table with the focused goal of helping the children and teachers in the Batavia School District.

Vicki Albrecht (2025-2028)
Vicki and her family moved to Batavia in 1993. While her four children attended Batavia Public Schools, Vicki became an active parent representative serving on various district committees, addressing issues from referendums, extending the school day and transportation considerations. In addition, a project that began as an idea to connect the generations blossomed into a 20+ year reading program at Hoover Wood Elementary, pairing residents from the Holmstead Retirement Home with early readers. In 2007, she began a 16-year career as a Math and Social Studies teacher at Rotolo Middle School. There, she served in leadership roles related to curriculum planning, school culture, and labor management. After retiring in June 2024, Vicki finds herself eager to serve on the Batavia Foundation for Educational Excellence (BFEE), allowing her to advocate for the students (her grandchildren included), staff, and the community she loves.

Annemarie Barnes (2024-2027)
Annemarie and her husband, Phil, have lived in Batavia for 35 years. They have four grown children: Phil, Nick, Liz, and John, who went through Batavia schools. Annemarie taught at Louise White School for the last 27 years, retiring in May of 2024. Recently, she was a volunteer on the Building Our Future Together committee. When her children were younger, she served as a PTO President, a religious education teacher, as well as other volunteer positions. Annemarie is looking forward to supporting the students and teachers in Batavia schools.

Melissa Dempsey (2021-2025) Treasurer
Melissa and her husband, Austin, and children Colton, Bennett and Cora have resided in Batavia since 2007. Melissa continues to be very active in the community with various projects including serving as AGS PTO President and BIC Board Co-Chair. After 15 years in the corporate world, Melissa followed her passion of supporting non-profit agencies and is currently working for Mutual Ground in Aurora as their Grant Manager. She is excited to be part of the BFEE Board and serving within another facet of Batavia’s wonderful community.

Betsy Donat (2024-2027)
Betsy and her husband, Peter, are lifelong Batavians. Both of their children, Emily and Alexander, attended Batavia's schools. Betsy taught in the district for 25 years, most of which was at Louise White. She retired in 2022. She is excited to be a part of BFEE to recognize the exceptional teachers, support staff, and students of Batavia.

Ginny Gaspar (2022-2025) Co-Chair
Ginny and her husband have lived in Batavia since 1998. Their grown daughter is a proud graduate of BHS. Ginny retired from teaching in 2018 and has enjoyed volunteering in the schools, on school district committees, and at the Batavia Interfaith Food Pantry. She looks forward to working with BFEE to help enrich the students and staff of BPS.

Mariah Harden (2022-2025)
Mariah was born and raised in Batavia and graduated with the class of 2014. She attended Northern Illinois University and now works as a Product Manager for Elite Sportswear. In addition, she is a coach for the BHS Cheer Team. She is excited to give back to the district and community in a new way. 

Dorothy Heckle (2024-2027)
Dorothy grew up in Geneva and has resided in Batavia since 2016 with husband Dan, and their two children Jacob and Alexandra. Dorothy (Dot) has built a career in marketing and is currently the Director of Marketing at Tru Vue Manufacturing in LaGrange. Both she and Dan have prioritized supporting and volunteering for organizations throughout the Fox Valley such as Marmion and Rosary High Schools, Cyclones Youth Hockey, and the Fox Valley Patriotic Organization. Dot recently completed her ninth year serving as a volunteer with the Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley. As a new member of BFEE, she is energized to continue serving the community, and especially to support educators and students as part of this team.

Michelle Hilliard (2024-2027)
Michelle and her husband Dan have been Batavia residents since 1998. Their adult children Jake and Lucy are LWS, RMS, and BHS alumni. Having spent countless volunteer hours across the district in varying capacities, followed by 20 years as a BPS substitute teacher, Michelle looks forward to helping provide educational opportunities and enrichment programs for BPS students through BFEE membership. 

Julie Johnson (2021-2025)
Julie grew up in Batavia and graduated from BHS in 1983. After college she began teaching Spanish at BHS and in 2021 retired after 33 years of service. Through BFEE Julie is looking forward to supporting the students and teachers of this great community. 

Aaron Kilburg (2025-2028) BOE Representative
Aaron Kilburg and his wife Kathleen have lived in Batavia since 2003. They have 3 children, Emma (BHS Class of 2024), Jake (BHS Junior) and Lily (RMS 7th grade). Aaron has served on the BPS101 Board of Education since 2021 and is the current Board Vice President. Aaron is an active volunteer in the community, supporting various organizations, including the Batavia Sports Boosters, Batavia Music Buffs, JB Nelson PTO, Batavia Main Street, and the BHS Hall of Honor.

Carolyn Viereckl (2025-2028)
Carolyn Viereckl is a 50 year resident of Batavia. Her husband Rudy is a lifelong resident. Both are graduates of Batavia High School class of 1978. Their children attended Batavia Schools (HCStorm, Louise White, RMS, and BHS) Ashlei is a 2006 graduate and RJ is a 2013 graduate. Carolyn graduated from Northern Illinois University, with an elementary education and a special education degree in 1983, and returned for her masters in 1993. She also completed her National Board Certification in 2009. Carol taught Deaf and Hard of Hearing students for the Mid Valley Special Education Cooperative, teaching for over 40 years and retired in 2019. Carol is looking forward to giving back to this wonderful community, that has given her so much.

Administrator  - Ashley Murtaugh 
Ashley moved to Batavia in 2013 and has two sons who currently attend Rotolo and HC Storm. Ashley volunteers her time with the HC Storm PTO, CHIP IN programs, and she enjoys being able to serve the entire BPS community through BFEE.
